About The Global Wellbeing Project

Our Mission: To cultivate a global, evidence-based, and well-being-focused intentional society by connecting individuals and communities dedicated to human and ecological flourishing.

We are currently at the beginning of a vital journey. The Global Wellbeing Project is starting as a digital hub—a space for learning, planning, and gathering resources. But our ultimate destination is deeply physical: to catalyse real-world action, build local networks, and support the development of intentional communities grounded in science, equity, and psychological safety.

Whether you are an individual seeking a more purposeful way of living or an existing community looking to connect with a wider network, you have a place here

Our Foundation: The Pillars of Well-being

We do not guess at what makes a good life or a healthy society; we look to the evidence. Our project is built upon three interconnected dimensions of well-being, supported by robust research in psychology, sociology, and sustainable economics:

1. The Personal Dimension: Psychological & Physical Thriving

A healthy society begins with the flourishing of the individual. Drawing on frameworks like Self-Determination Theory and longevity research, we prioritise:

  • Mental Health & Psychological Needs: Ensuring environments that foster autonomy, competence, and deep relatedness.

  • Purpose & Meaning: Supporting individuals in finding and pursuing what brings authentic value to their lives.

  • Physical Vitality: Promoting evidence-based lifestyle practices that support long-term physical health and preventative care.

2. The Social Dimension: Connection & Equity

Well-being cannot exist in isolation. Based on the Social Determinants of Health, we recognize that true well-being requires systemic support and the dismantling of social barriers. We advocate for:

  • Deep Social Connection: Building resilient networks that combat isolation and foster mutual aid.

  • Economic Equity: Designing and supporting systems that prioritize low poverty, reduce inequality, and ensure everyone's physiological and psychological basic needs are met.

  • Inclusive Norms: Actively creating spaces where all voices, especially those historically marginalized, are heard, valued, and integrated into decision-making.

3. The Planetary Dimension: Ecological Harmony

Human well-being is intrinsically tied to the health of our planet. Guided by models like Doughnut Economics, we are committed to:

  • Sustainable Practices: Ensuring our communities and actions remain within the Earth's ecological ceiling while meeting the social foundation of human needs.

How We Operate: The Hub and The Mesh

To achieve this global vision, we use a hybrid organisational model that provides both stability and freedom: Structured Core, Fluid Edge. We want to avoid rigid hierarchies while ensuring the network remains a safe, purpose-driven space that is always open to exploring new and better ways of organizing.

The Hub (Our Core): The platform itself—this website and our core community spaces—is governed by principles of Sociocracy. This means our core operations are managed through deliberate, consent-based decision-making. The Hub acts as the steward of our core values, maintains our evidence-based standards, and provides the psychological safety and structural framework necessary for the community to thrive.

The Mesh (Our Swarm): Once you join the network and align with our core pillars, you are empowered to act autonomously at the "edge" of the network. We encourage a Swarm approach for real-world action. Members are encouraged to self-organise, form local reading groups, start community gardens, launch well-being initiatives, or connect with existing local intentional communities. You do not need top-down permission to do good work that aligns with our charter; the Hub exists to support and amplify your local efforts.

Join the Network

We are currently building the foundation. The first step is to connect, learn, and plan together.
